She woke with a shiver in a cold, plain room that she had never seen before. The only sound besides her slow, unsure breathing the ticking of a watch in her lap. It barely registered. She had just been saved by Tuxedo Kamen, who aided her in healing the entire city. That was normal, but he had seen her transform. Now he knew who she truly was, that Tsukino Usagi was indeed Sailor Moon. Frightened, she transformed back to her normal state, once again wearing her school uniform. She tucked the watch into her pocket just before she heard the door open. She gasped. "Daijobu ka?" his deep voice rang with a hint of concern. "Are you awake?" "Ma... Mamoru-san?! What am I... Where am I?" she asked with quaking voice. He answered in his normal, cool tone. "We're at my place? You passed out after saving everyone. Don't you remember?" She looked at him in uncertainty, her words came slowly in astonishment, "But... what would... You're..." She was cut off by the shocking vision on the couch. A cape, a mask, a top hat, thrown into a heap on the cushions. Silently, she rose, took the mask in her hand, and, with a hint of fear, placed it on his face. "Tuk... Tuxedo Kamen?!!" "Yes, I'm Tuxedo Kamen. I'm sorry for all the trouble I've caused, Sailor Moon, I have to find the crystal... to regain my memory." She listened intently as he told his story, a chill in his voice and sorrow in his eyes. She found out that he was an orphan, parents killed in a car crash long ago. He had no memories of them, nor any before the crash. He doubted that Chiba Mamoru was even his name. He told her of the dream that haunted him every night, and about as much of his past that he could. It was his first time opening up to someone, she knew that as well. He finished his tale with a slight smile, he had more than warmed to her. "So why are you searching for the crystal?" She wanted to explain it. She was positive he wasn't the enemy. Still, Luna said not to get too close. So she listened to Luna's advice. She didn't tell him. She left with hardly a word, she was so nervous. She felt a warmth between them, and she couldn't stand not being in his arms. Still, she didn't act on it. She said she had to go, and he led her to the door, each more than disappointed at her departure. "Hey, Usako, don't forget your bag." He called her his little rabbit. She would never forget, and she would always hate herself for waiting. And time went on. It never stopped. She could never go back. Silently, she listened to the ticking of the watch. She squeezed it tight in her small hand, as if to bring him back, and winced when the broken glass cut her fingers. "Are you alright?" he asked from his position over her. A tear fell from her eye. She loved Mamoru, not Endymion, but Mamoru was gone, forever. Could she never love again? "I'm fine," she whispered under her breath, and pulled the watch up to gaze at it once more. A puzzled look came over her face as she heard the ticking. The watch had stopped. "You like my watch?" "N... nani?" she asked in astonishment. "This is Mamoru's..." He laid to the side of her and fiddled with a chain on his belt. "Why, so it is," he confirmed to himself as he brought his own watch off the chain and into vision. "I guess I still had it when I was reincarnated," he reasoned. "Strange..." Usagi took the watch from his hand and compared it with hers. It was indeed the exact same watch, though hers was worn and broken. Endymion's was like new. It scared her. The thought of them being the same person scared her. Was she Serenity, then? What of Usagi? Was she the princess? Was all of this supposed to happen? Time and fate, were they one and the same? Tears. "Wh... why are you crying?" he asked, concern thick in his voice. "Did I..." "Please go." He looked at her in disbelief. "What did I...?" "You didn't do anything. I just need to be alone for a while," she explained. Instead of granting her request, he pulled her in close to his body. She may have wanted to be alone, but he couldn't handle it now. He needed someone familiar, and the only one close to that was Usagi. "It's alright," he told her in a soft tone, hoping to ease away her discomfort with his words. "I..." She pushed him off, not wanting that glorious warmth around her. It felt so wonderful it hurt. Hurt so much she thought of Mamoru, always taking away her pain and now..... "Please, just go!" He stared. He couldn't believe she was forcing him away. His expression was blank, he didn't know what to do, but he didn't want to be alone. Slowly, he placed his feet on the floor. He looked behind himself a moment before rising, just checking. Maybe she would change her mind. He saw her back, and heard her quiet sobs filling the room. He had made her cry. For whatever reasoning, he had made her cry. He would never forgive himself. He walked back into his room to find uneasy sleep. Usagi was silently screaming at herself for dismissing him. She held herself tightly as her body protested his lack of warmth. "I'm sorry...." By the time he awakened, Usagi had long been home, leaving a very depressed and isolated Endymion with a girl he hardly knew, Mizuno Ami. "Did she say why she left?" he asked, for the third time. "Iie, I told you that. Maybe she just forgot something; Usagi does that often," the blue tressed girl offered her explanation. Endymion, on the other hand, was jumping to other conclusions. "Endymion-sama, I said breakfast is done," Ami repeated. She finally suceeded in getting his attention as she slid a bowl towards him. "Are you awake?" "Sure..." he sighed as he stared at the bowl. "What is this?" he inquired while dipping his spoon in the bowl. "Milk? And what else?" Ami smiled at his curiousity. "Sweetened oats. It's called cereal." Endymion shot an awkward glance her way as he spoke. "Oats? You mean, like what you feed horses?" "Well... uhm.... yes, but... it's good, like oatmeal, you know?" she replied with a large sweatdrop imminent. ".... That's still what you feed horses....." "Just try it, your highness...." Endymion held the spoon filled with little tan pieces and colorful shapes drenched in milk close to his mouth, where he continued to stare. With the comment "Well, I've never tried horse food before..." he popped it into his mouth, slowly chewed, and after quite a while and some odd looks at nothing in particular, swallowed. "It's not bad, though I've never been served a cold breakfast before, either." After finishing breakfast, Endymion simply watched as Ami took the dishes into the kitchen and cleaned up. His watch became more of a pensive gaze from that point on. She did, as promised, explain television to him, how the pictures were transmitted through satellites and that the screen was all tiny little red, blue, and green dots. Endymion tried his best to keep his mind focused, but somehow kept putting more desirable words in place of the ones she was using. It was when she finished, and began to walk away, when he stood up, turned her around, and kissed her, passionately. He had decided. "I love you." Ami's face blazed in bright red, a combination of shock and embarassment. It was, after all, her first kiss. Emotions whirled around in her head, confusing all the logic she had within her. Suddenly, Endymion looked much more handsome then she ever thought, his eyes were gorgeous, his voice was sexy. Her knees gave out and she found herself being held in his strong arms, against his bare chest. She felt like she was on fire. It took her several minutes to regain even a small amount of her composure. It was even longer til she could even begin to speak. "Na... nani?!" "I said I love you." This time a disarming smile graced his lips, and Ami found herself being drawn further in. It was all uncontrolably overwhelming, so much so that Ami just couldn't hold back. "I... I love you, too." He kissed her again, longer this time. Warmth filled both of them, it felt so fulfilling. She led him over to the couch, as if she had always wanted to, like some fantasy she kept hidden deep down inside, where they snuggled endlessly. He whispered sweet nothings into her ear, promises of eternal devotion and undying affection. She found herself giggling in response, she felt so giddy it was frightening. Butterfly kisses and intoxicating glances were exchanged. It went on for over an hour. Then the intensity of it dulled. His warm embrace became something of a desperate hug. Her happy laughter became more like a response to an old joke. Then the words stopped, along with the kissing. Then Ami realized what had just happened. Her first romance ended then and there. Endymion was holding her, tightly, and crying, loudly, into her shoulder. Something had happened between him and Usagi, and he couldn't stand being alone. Scared and lonely, he turned to the only person who was nice to him and made her out to be a goddess, someone more perfect than the girl he loved. Ami couldn't blame him, she knew what it felt like from when her parents were divorced. The fact that it would have never worked out between her and Endymion made it much more bearable, and she did her best to comfort him, as the friend she knew he was. "It's alright, Endymion-sama. Cheer up. It's not that bad..." "Yes it is!" he sobbed in protest. "She hates me! Oosahgee hates me! It's all my fault and now she'll....." "Usagi-chan doesn't hate you..." "Yes she does! I made her cry and then she yelled at me to leave. She doesn't want to see me anymore and I need her!" Ami was slowly getting very upset. She didn't like to see her friends this hurt. If it wasn't bad enough, she knew what it was. "You just need to give her a little time, she doesn't know you that well." "She doesn't even like me. She doesn't want to get to know me better." "Now that's not true." At this, Endymion snapped his head up to face Ami and almost yelled, "Yes, it's true, because she doesn't love me! And she never will because I'm not Mahmohroo!!!" This pushed him over the edge as he forced himself to the other side of the couch, curled up in a ball, and began to start nearly convulsing in his sorrows. He didn't want to be alone anymore in a world he didn't know, and it didn't help that his mind kept playing back memories of his princess yelling at him to leave her alone. His screams were muffled by the throw pillows. Ami wasn't sure of what to do. She'd never seen anyone so upset. No, she had. A memory from her past life quickly resurfaced in her mind's eye. Princess Serenity screaming and crying wildly as her prince was taken down right in front of her eyes. It was then that she picked up his sword and... then she... She had killed herself. Because she couldn't stand the thought of never being with her love again. That was what Endymion was going through, sheer despair. "Maybe......" Ami began, placing a soft hand on his shoulder. "Just maybe... we could make you a little more desirable?" Curiousity in his eyes, Endymion stared at Ami and, ever so slowly, nodded. "How?" "Wash up," she instructed, directing him into the bathroom. It took a little while to get him settled. He'd never taken a shower before. Plumbing was that advanced during the Silver Millenium, and only the best of bathes had running water. His personal one, back then, did not. "So the left one's for hot and the other cold?" he repeated. "Hai. Make it quick then, Endy...." she turned to face him and stopped dead. Her eyes almost fell out of their sockets. "What? Why are you looking at me like that?" Endymion stood in front of Ami... in the buff. Unable to take her eyes off him, she commented, "You didn't have to go that fast..." She then swallowed, hard. "Do you mind...?" He quickly wrapped a towel around his waste. "I'm sorry, I didn't know you would..." "You had mistresses to bathe you, didn't you?" she said once her brain turned back on. Blushing, he responded, "Yeah." He was back in his general's uniform after that, in Ami's living room. Luna had joined her, and Endymion was expecting a royal thrashing from Usagi's guardian. Instead, he found she had agreed to help. "First off," Ami informed him. "We have to get you to sound human when you say Japanese names." "Jyapanees..." he mimicked. Insert sweatdrop on Ami here. "You sound like a robot or something. Now, first off, her name is 'Usagi.'" "Yeah, Oosahgee, I know that." "You don't even know what it means, do you?" He smirked. "Nope." "Some prince...." Luna added. "'Usagi' means 'rabbit.'" "She reminds me of one..." Endymion said to himself. "Usagi..." "That's more like it!" Ami encouraged him. "Still... you should call her.... what should her call her? Luna, what did Mamoru-san call Usagi-chan?" Luna had to think about it. Had she ever heard him address her ward? Once, in the park, he called her... "Usako. Mamoru called her Usako." She then turned to Endymion to explain the name. "It means 'little rabbit.'" "Usako..." He was wearing a white button down short sleeved shirt, blue jeans, and a pair of canvas basketball sneakers. He couldn't get over his reflection in the mirror. "I... I don't think I like it..." "Well, it's better than your uniform," Ami stated. Endymion sighed, "I suppose it's worth it if this works...." Ami handed the her mother's credit card to the salesman. "He'll wear it out." The next part was up to Endymion alone. Luna knew exactly where Usagi would be. With instructions on how to get there, he entered the park, looking for a rabbit sitting by a tall, elegant fountain. He found her by a tree instead, staring at the empty bench he thought she'd be sitting on. He didn't know it was the bench where he always used to read. He took a deep, nervous breath. "'Yo, Usako!" he called as he approached her. "Genki dasu de." Her eyes lit up like wildfire when she saw him, and her heart started skipping beats. "Mamo-chan!!" she chirped as she ran to him, and hugged him, tighter than she ever had before. "I thought I'd never see you again!!" His mind screamed at him. He smiled warmly, wrapping his arms around her. He began to feel that lightheaded sensation that followed any confrontation with Serenity. "How did you get back!?! I missed you so much, Mamo-chan..." He held her even tighter, and kissed her lightly on the forehead. "I... I'm not Mamoru. Though, for your sake, I wish I was." "Na... Nani?! Endymion?!" Her voice began to crack as tears welled in her lovely crystal eyes. "You're not... Nuh.... NO!!" She took off running, faster than a bolt of lightning. He didn't have the nerve to stop her. Instead, he sat where she did, and scolded himself. "WHY AM I HERE!?!" he screamed. He wanted an answer. He received none. In the midst of despair, he wouldn't cry again. And then as night began to cast it's shadow over Tokyo, he felt a small hand take up his. "It's very strange, seeing you in that outfit. You do look handsome, though," the soft, playful voice rang in his ears. He stared at her in disbelief. At first he thought the angel in front of him was an illusion. His heart told him otherwise.
