PG13 History Will Not Repeat Itself Part Nine: Glass by:Shell Presto Disclaimer: I don't own Sailor Moon or any affiliated characters, Naoko Takeuchi does. I'm just borrowing them to keep the tale of an Earth prince and his Moon princess alive. In case any of you wish to know: I'm sorry this story is taking me so long to write. I have to be in a certain mood to write a certain type of story. It seemed as though he had gained his purpose for living. As he watched the thirty some birds that had made nests in the corner of his living room, an unbridaled joy swept over him. Sure, he was sharing his home with birds, but he was not alone, and he was no longer useless. They continued to chirp their gratitude to their newfound landlord. "Endymion?" The unexpected words jolted the young prince from his content vigil. It was a shock he was happy to receive. "Sere?! What are you doing here?" he asked, suddenly wide eyed. She smiled warmly. "I wanted to see how you were doing. You know you should lock yourrrr......." The princess was engulfed by her lover's embrace, and then lips. He simply couldn't contain all the postive energy racing through his veins. In a flash, he picked her up, arms lifting her parallel to his body. She began a fit of giggles as he twirled her around the room, "Endymion??!!! "This is turning out to be one of the best days of my life!!" he exclaimed, falling onto the couch. The dazed Serenity nearly melted into his arms. She desperately wanted to see the look of her lover's head spinning, but found herself equally as dizzy. "What's with the sudden change of mood?" "Look there," he instructed as he pointed to the corner of the room reserved for his feathered roomates. Catching a slight glimpse of the peachy face of his love, he realized the inaccuracy of his instructions, being as how the room was in a state of perpetual motion for the two of them. "Uhm... one of the corners, that is...." Her head finally clearing, she saw the birds happily chirping away while working on their new nests. "Oh, Endymion!" she exclaimed. "They're sooo cute!" With that, one of the smaller birds flew over to the elated princess, who carefully stroked its soft fluffy feathers. "You look like a little puffball..." She heard her lover chuckle softly, a light smile adorning his face. She still didn't know what all of this was about. "Endymion....?" "Remember that tree they were cutting down? Well, the birds were relocated here. I'm taking care of them," he explained. "All of them?" He nodded, and concern washed over her happy expression. "Endymion... I don't think your building allows pets...." "Pets?" he questioned, his tone becoming more serious. "The birds aren't pets..." "Animals." "It's okay, no one will find out." He then turned to address his tenants. "You're going to have to keep quiet if you want to stay here, alright?" They're chirping immediately faded. "There, see, no one will notice." Serenity sighed, worry overtaking her voice, "I hope you're right." "Of course I'm right," he assured her. He then fell into a somber silence. He stared at his love a moment, sadness lining his eyes. "Sere...." "Endymion.....?" "Can we......" His eyes then turned to the floorboards. "No.... nevermind." Her fingertips lightly grazed the back of his hand, her eyes goaded him on, to no avail. "Can we what, Endymion?" "I was just thinking... I miss taking our walks. I was hoping we could go on one." Serenity sighed. She missed the long walks in the gardens, too, the ones where she and Endymion could be alone and talk about whatever they wanted to, and live out their dreams as well. The evenings were always very romantic, and ideal for a young couple. Too romantic, an evening Usagi would have only spent with Mamoru. "It's alright!" Endymion assured her in false happiness. "It's just as nice having you here." "Have you eaten today?" she asked to change the subject. He shook his head no, and Serenity lifted herself off the couch to use the phone. Endymion watched in something close to awe as she used the communications device to order food. He wasn't sure about anything in this world, but he knew the technology was astounding. Fifteen minutes later, he also found out that he really liked pizza. "Do you have to go so soon? I'd like it if you spent the night again," he nearly begged his princess. He had been enjoying his time with her, it wasn't fair that it was ending now. "I'm sorry, but Usagi has a curfew to keep." Endymion grinned widely. "I always thought Princess Serenity had one, too. I don't ever recall you leaving before sunri..." Serenity blushed about fifty different shades of red. "Don't start!" she scolded her lover. "It's so odd, seeing you in Usagi's clothing..." he added. "You look almost exotic in a way." "Purple skirts and pink blouses aren't exotic...." He smiled, "I think they are." They kissed, and she left the room without another word. Endymion remained rather content, however, because it was always a joy to see her. So content was he, he didn't notice Serenity left the door open a crack. This time he awoke to loud cries and ear piercing chirps. "Chiba-san!!!" Endymion rushed to his bedroom door to see what had happened, there was an older woman with a broom swatting at his feathered roomates. "Stop that!!!!" Endymion yelled, removing the broom from her hands. "Leave them alone!" "What is wrong with you!" the woman, Mamoru's landlord, nearly screamed. "There are codes against this! I've never had a problem with you staying here even though your young, but if you're looking for an eviction, you're in the right direction!" Endymion was doubly confuzed. "E..vic..tion...?" he repeated, not understanding how a prince could be evicted from anything. "Get rid of the birds, or get out!!!" she shrieked before storming out of the room, banging the door on the way out. The chirping increased to dazingly high output. Endymion turned, still in shock. "I.... I don't know. I'll..... you'll stay, though. I promised this would be your home, and it is." Usagi abruptly entered. "What was all that yelling about... Endymion!?!! What are all these...." A flash in her mind revealed the truth as she touched upon her alter ego's memory. "You can't have birds in here!" she exclaimed. Endymion faced her, a blank expression on his face, shame in his voice, "I... I figured that out, but.... I.... I promised them they could stay, Usa...." He trailed off, knowing that Usagi-chan upset her, and that Usako upset her even more. He didn't know how to end her name, he also didn't know that giving no ending to her name implied even more intimacy. She frowned. "Call me Usagi, okay?" With a nod, he continued, "Usagi.... They were killing that tree! I promised..." "You'll lose your home if you don't make them leave, and they'll have to leave either way. Endymion..." she tried to sound comforting, she intended to come check up on him, she was just too awkward around him. Trying to hold a stern expression, he started to cry. He had never been so humiliated in his entire life, nor had he broken such a promise to his subjects. The chirping increased in intensity as he opened the window. "I'm sorry......" he choked out as the torment in his mind spread. He was utterly ashamed of himself. "I can't keep my promise..... you all have to leave." Usagi watched unknowingly as the birds continued to plead with him. Tears escaped her own eyes when he broke down onto the floor in what seemed to be intolerable pain. "I'm sorry!! I lied! I'm not the King of Earth anymore, I never was. I..... I'm not even a prince anymore. I have no power, and I can't get you a place to stay. Please, forgive me," he was begging for forgiveness from birds. Usagi was in shock. The birds did leave though, some stating disbelief, others the equivilent of cursing the former prince out. She dropped to her knees, bringing his head to her shoulder. He continued to cry, sobbing, "I've never been so embarassed, and now I'm crying right here in front of you... I'm a disgrace to everthing I've stood for, I...." His tears where wiped away onto her thin fingers. "You're hot again.... I don't know much about you, Endymion, but I do know this isn't like you. You'll be yourself once you spend some more time here. You'll get used to it, I'll help. Okay?" "Please, if you want to help at all.......... Please, let me be with Sere." "I can't do that," she protested softly. Endymion cringed, "But I don't have anyone else! I need her, just for now! Please, I only want a minute with her!! Please!!!" As much as she pitied him, there was nothing she could do. She wouldn't give in to Serenity, Usagi was intent on keeping her self. "I know how you feel, still..." "You don't know...." he countered. "You have your guardians, I don't even...." An idea came to mind. "If.... If you have your guardians, the Senshi, then... weren't my generals....?" "Generals?" Usagi murmured. Usagi then realized just what he meant as a distant memory flashed into a vivid reality. Horror flashed in Usagi's eyes. "Kunzite...." Endymion smiled as he told his love of his mentor. Serenity always found her love more open under the moonlight and stretched out on the grass. "He's like my father actually, moreso than my real one. He taught me virtually everything." Serenity gave her love a wry smile, "I do believe I'll have to thank him then, teaching you everything..." "Well..... not EVERYTHING...." Endymion trailed off as his love began to laugh hysterically. <...everything to Endymion. All of his generals were...> "Usagi? What is it?" She rose to her feet. "I'm sorry, I have to go." "AGAIN!??!" Endymion inquired in a less than calm tone. "You always...." She was out the door before he could finish. "...leave just as I ask something important." He walked over to the table with the communications device on it. He lifted the receiver. He held it to his face as he had seen his love do the night before. All he heard was a dull hum. He stared at the buttons, knowing Serenity pushed some of them. However, he didn't understand the writing on them. Intimidated, he did nothing at all. Long moments later, a sharp beep pierced the buzzing, startling Endymion. He dropped the phone onto the buttons, hitting some, but the noise stopped. Nervously, he held the receiver to his ear once again. This time, he heard a voice, "We're sorry, your call did not go through. Please hang up and try again." "Oh, Miss!" Endymion said in delightful surprise. "I need to know how to work this machine. If you'd instruct me, I'm sure I could..." "We're sorry," the voice droned again. "Your call did not go through. Please hang up and try again." "Miss...?" Endymion asked in confusion. "I... need someone to...." The message repeated itself, which scared Endymion. He didn't know what was going on, and he realized the voice didn't really sound human. Dropping the phone, it clattered to the floor as he backed away slowly. He could still here that droning voice, and, not knowing how to stop it, quickly pulled the base of the machine off the table, tearing the wire. When the noise stopped, he remained still and silent. He looked around the room as a chill wind blew within it. The dead white walls, the empty nests, the technology, nothing he was familiar with. His mind was going in circles. "My Queen, I cannot..." She held the crystal ball out for her servant to observe. "He is suffering, do you want it to remain this way?" she hissed. "No." "He is a king, he needs that power, and he needs his general." It made sense, though he was still reluctant. Still, Endymion was in need. "Yes, my Queen." Slowly, Kunzite walked away, his body fading into the darkness, until only the vision of his white hair remained in the distance. Finally, that too disappeared as a portal appeared, transporting him to his original master's estate. To be continued.... Took me long enough, huh? Well, I hope it was worth the wait. Thank you to all who wrote, it was inspiring (and sorry if I didn't reply yet, I've been a little tied up). If you didn't write yet, do so, if you did, write again!
