Love and Jealousy: The Unforgotten Legion By: Eternal Angel and Jade Thinking of Serenity By: Eternal Angel I glance at the moon Shimmering in the night's sky My mind thinks of you Your serene face Your sincere smile Your innocent eyes Not one day passes Do I not think of you Dreaming that you are with me I want to tell you That you are always in my heart forever Serenity... Chapter 1 The pale silver rays of moonlight crept into the shadows and upon the still waters of Earths great lakes as night descended upon the blue and green planet and the moon rose in the starry night sky. With the moonlight came the water sprites and their melodious song now echoed through the forests and the villages, creating merriment and happiness in the midst of the humans and creators there. A water sprite looked down at the earth from her perch in the heavens, away from the prying eyes of those she sang for, of those she watched over, as a silent guardian, never to be seen by them at any cost. She sighed lightly. She longed to go to the planet that she helped make happy and peaceful. To see the joy in peoples eyes. But she knew that would never be. She didn't belong with them anymore than they belonged with her. She couldn't and wouldn't go down there. It was a matter of duty, and of promise. She'd made a promise long ago to watch over this Earth, and protect it from harm, no matter what the cost. Even at her own life. Even at her friends lives. Such a thing frightened her to no end. To give up everything for a place she didn't even know ... but she was it's guardian, as she would forever be until the end of time. For all eternity, until evil itself ceased to exist, or something so powerful, so evil, it destroyed her came upon this world. No matter how much she wanted to visit this place on lush green forests and laughing people, she could not. She was destined to protect earth, and to be alone, because no one would ever have the power that she possessed. Her sad eyes looked down at earth one more time and she almost imagined, almost dreamed of what it would be like, to go down there, and maybe talk to someone from there, from the world she would fight for with her life, and the planet she silently watched over, like a prowler in the night.... but she quickly extinguished the ideas, and the images that surfaced in her head, and crushed it ruthlessly beneath the heal of reality. Ohh how she wished. But, she was a water sprite, a mystic guardian from the heavens. The name meant nothing, for she was not of water, but of the light ... and she could never have her only wish, to visit the Earth that she protected, so she focused instead on the task at hand and continued to silently observe what she could never have, feeling her heart break all the while. From the shadows that crept over her domain, shadows that appeared even where light ruled utterly, a woman watched her the sprite as she looked longily down at the Earth. She had watched her for quite awhile. She knew this child's greatest wish, and only hope ... she knew the girls fate and destiny as it was ... but what of her future, trapped up here with only the other sprites, who did not have such a responsibility as her, for company? She needed someone who was real to her, as the others were not for reasons known only to her ... and the woman smiled very slightly. There might be something she could do for this girl, who held the very fate of this galaxy in her delicate hands ... for this girl, who she knew, was sad, and very, very alone. * * * * * * * * A man looked up at the moon. Its beauty was a sight to see. He never got tired of watching it. It was the best when it was full, when the moon lit up the dark night sky along with the stars for companions ... it was a one of a kind, and it's was breathtaking in its elegance and splendor. As he looked closely at the moon, he saw a lovely figure there. Only her face really. Her eyes were sad and glowed a soft blue, and she looked down at him, her gaze seeming to focus on him, as if he were someone that could take the sadness away. He blinked and the vision was gone. But he remembered her face. Her golden hair, her pretty face that shone with a light to match the moon itself ... and her eyes. Such sad eyes. The sight of her sad eyes, made him want to make her happy. To see those eyes light up with mirth and joy. To make the vision laugh, and to see her smile... He shook his head with a soft smile, not knowing what had come over him, and with a last glance back at the moon, he went back into his home and soon feel asleep to the gentle sound of a woman singing, as her sad song echoed through the air as though she were an angel from the heavens..... and that she was. * * * * * * * * * "Serenity, dear." The lady said to the girl. She had golden hair. More golden than Serenity's, but not by much. Her face looked older and wiser than the younger girl, and there was elegance and grace in her every movement. The girl and the woman looked very much alike ... but while the woman's eyes were calm and happy with an inner love, and an inner light, the girls eyes were pools of watery blue, neither happy, nor sad at the moment as she turned her attention to the woman whom she saw very rarely ... to the woman whom no one besides her and two other sprites had *ever* seen at all. "Yes, Selene?" Serenity replied, quickly shifting her eyes from the Earth, to the woman. It was a close call, a human had almost seen her. She hoped he didn't, and yet, a part of her hoped he did.... She couldn't explain it to herself, and didn't really want to try to either. Life was complicated enough without having to add an emotional web to this mess as well. How foolish she was, to ever think that she could be happy. "Serenity, I am here to grant you one wish. Anything you want." Selene said and her eyes as well as her mouth smiled softly at the girl who looked up at her from where she knelt, ever present as she be, as guardian of the Earth. "Anything?" Serenity asked, only loud enough for the moon goddess to hear, not loud enough to alert any of the other sprites, and never loud enough to carry down to Earth. "Yes, anything, my child." Selene smiled. "Can I go down to earth, can I?" Serenity asked, wondrously, her eyes shining at even the idea that the one thing she had longed for all her life was finally within her grasp. "Yes, my child, but only for one day." Selene said, watching Serenity eyes light up with such happiness she felt almost overwhelmed. She was amazed that a gift so small as a visit to the Earth for one day could make someone so happy. But then Serenity had always been a special case ... very few things made her sad, and very few things made her truly happy, as she was now. It was rare to see her like this and the moon goddess cherished the moment. "Thank you!" Serenity exclaimed, hugging Selene tightly. "One day is enough for me!" Selene chuckled as the girl scrambled about and shook her head, with that same soft small still hovering on her lips, knowing that Serenity's destiny and her future held much more than she thought. Her destiny was with another, as much as it was here. And though Selene didn't know who this individual was, she prayed to higher gods than she that Serenity could be happy, if only for a little while. She deserved such happiness after all that she did, and all that she would do as time went on. Because she knew, that unless Serenity found someone to share her light with, she would forever *be* alone, as was her duty as the guardian of Earth and this galaxy. * * * * * * * * * Endymion thought of the woman that he'd seen the night before. She had looked so real to him, as if she was right in front of him. In his head, he couldn't think of anything else but the angel that captured his heart. He didn't know if she was real ... didn't think she could be, be for some strange reason, he had hope that she was, despite the silliness of that hope. "Endymion." A woman's smooth voice said. He glanced over at her from the corner of his eyes. She was a very pretty girl; her hair was a deep auburn, almost flaming red with a sort of off tone of brown added in. Her voice was smooth, silky, inviting ... but lined with a sharp edge. Her eyes were dark and mysterious, an almost blood red. Yet, she was nothing compared to his angel, or rather, his fantasy angel since he didn't know if she was even real. "Hello, Beryl." Endymion replied. Everyone knew that Beryl had a huge crush on him, yet he only thought of her as a friend and would never think of her as more. Everyone also knew this. Everyone but Beryl it seemed. Endymion's eyes caught a glance of a beautiful maiden and he blinked, startled at the sudden similarity he noticed. She looked just like the person that he seen the night before! Same hair, same eyes ... only without the hounding sadness that had filled them before. Her face seemed to glow as she smiled. Just looking at her made people joyful it seemed. Everyone was looking at her in plain awe. She was beautiful enough to be a goddess, and yet she didn't seem vain, or cruel like most beautiful woman usually were. She seemed ... bright. And innocent. "Endymion?" Beryl asked sweetly, noticing that he wasn't paying any attention to her. She traced his gaze and followed his eyes to see what he was staring at. No, it couldn't be, could it? He was looking at another girl! No, it couldn't be. Jealousy crept into her eyes, and into her now beat red face. No, he was hers. She wasn't going to let any girl take her man. Not in a million years... * * * * * * * * * Serenity was having so much fun. How blissful it was to be on earth, and to walk with the people that she protected. They were all so kind. They greeted her with big smiles, big enough to match her own, and she was happy to see that they seemed to enjoy her presence. She generally had that effect on people, sprites, other creatures ... she was sure it was because she was made of light, and her light transferred itself to whoever she was around. Everyone spoke such kind words to her. She spoke joyously back, and then turned her head to see someone staring at her. How odd. Was she doing something wrong to attract his attention? She looked at herself and where she was standing but could not see nothing out of place or irregular about where she was. The person staring at her was a handsome man, with dark black hair. His eyes were a light color of blue, much lighter than her own sapphire ones with a hint of azure in them. Right next to him was a woman with auburn colored hair, and her face was flaming red, almost the same color as her hair. How peculiar. Serenity shrugged slight and kept going about. She reminded herself that she only had a day, yet, there was so much to do. She knew she was going it miss it here dreadfully. A friendly person came up to her. "Hello, I'm Raye." She greeted. She was a beautiful young girl. Her blackish purple hair reached to just below her waist. Serenity knew her hair must be the longest any of the people around her had ever seen ... if she let it down and out of her rather, unique hairstyle it pooled around her feet on the ground. She smiled at the girl who had spoken to her and noticed as she did that her eyes were a deep velvet purple, with a touch of black added to them. "Hi, I'm Serenity." Serenity introduced herself. She knew in an instinct that Raye was a loving, caring, and kind person. She had a big heart. Another one of her gifts. She could always tell within seconds of meeting a person, or being whether it was evil or not, and whether it posed a threat. "Ohh, Sere. I haven't seen you around before, where are you from?" Rei asked curiously. Serenity smiled at the new name Raye had given her. No one had ever nicknamed her before. No one had thought that she'd appreciate it. How wrong they were. "I'm from far away from here. Far, far, away." Serenity answered, careful to say no more than that. It was the truth, well sorta. It was farther away than she could ever explain. Raye frowned at the answer, but didn't say anything else about it. "It's nice to meet you. Come on, I'll take you somewhere fun, you look like you want some." Raye yanked Serenity's arm over in the general direction she was beginning to move. The two of them laughed at Raye's straight forwardness and Serenity followed her new friend as she pulled her along. * * * * * * * * * Endymion frowned as his sister Raye yanked his 'angel' off somewhere. He sighed. He wanted to meet her. He really did. Maybe he should follow them. But as he headed away, Beryl grabbed his shoulder. "Where are you going?" Beryl asked quickly changing her fuming face quickly. He better not be going to see that girl. "I need to talk to Raye." He replied, annoyed, and yanked his arm away from Beryl and headed off after the gorgeous blond and his sister, leaving Beryl. Beryl fumed. He couldn't just ignore her! * * * * * * * * * "Hey, guys, I would like to introduce ya to Serenity, Sere for short." Raye introduced Serenity to her friends, pushing the blond girl in front of her gently. Serenity gave a timid smile. "I'm Mina." The blond one introduced herself first. A cheerful smile was on her face, much wider than Serenity's shy one. She looked slightly like her, Serenity noted. The only difference was that Mina's hair was a few shades lighter than her golden blond, and her eyes were a light color of blue where as Serenity's were a sparkling sapphire. A red bow tied up her hair and Serenity's senses could detect only happiness and good intentions in the girl. "Nice to meet you Serenity. I'm Amy." The shy blue haired girl greeted. Her hair was short, and came down to her cheek bone. Her eyes were a dark shade of blue, like the ocean. Serenity grinned softly at her, both sensing and seeing the spark of intelligence in this girls eyes. This prompted a smile from the blue haired girl. The others noted it with surprise. Amy didn't usually smile that often to complete strangers, actually, never as far as they knew, unless it was just being polite. But this smile was genuine ... and there was just something about Serenity that seemed to draw them in ... and her sparkling eyes seemed to laugh, lighting up the very place she was standing, like an aura. "Hiya Sere, I'm Lita." A tall brunette said. Her shiny brown hair was up in a high ponytail. She was friendly. Her green eyes sparkled. Serenity could sense something else about this girl as well ... she seemed to have an affinity for more... masculin clothing than the rest of the girls. Going on instinct Serenity stuck out her hand, and the other stared at her in surprise. Lita looked at her in shokc for a moment before slowly reaching out and grasping the small girls hand. Serenity's grip was firm and Lita's smile doubled in intensity as the girl smiled another soft grin, knowingly, understandingly. "Very nice to meet you all." Sere replied to them all, eyes lighting up more at her new friends. "Hey Raye!" A voice called out. Sere looked to where the voice had come from. It was the guy that was staring at her before! She shifted on her feet, a little apprehensive for some reason. There was something unnervingly familiar about this man ... as if she'd seen him before ... but that was just ridiculous, wasn't it? "Hey Endy. Ohh Sere, I want you to meet my brother Endymion. Endymion, Serenity." Endymion shifted his gaze fully to the girl standing beside Raye. He looked her over as he did. Golden hair, sapphire blue eyes, pale creamy skin, and a nice figure. She was, undoubtedly, one of the most beautiful women he'd ever seen, and that was saying a lot. He grabbed Sere's hand and kissed it lightly, shocking the others. Endymion never did anything like to the ladies ... even if they were of nobility. He always just smiled at them and nodded his head politely, but he never kissed their hands as normal gentle man did ... he only did it with those he already knew and was very familiar with... Raye gaped at her brother ... then an evil glint entered her eye. Endymion obviously liked this girl, and with the way Serenity was staring at him Raye got the idea that even if Serenity didn't return the feelings, she was fascinated by him at least. Oh ... this was going to be fun. "Very nice to meet you." His voice said lowly, staring up at her through dark lashes, assessing her features from closer. Finally, I get to be face to face with my angel, he thought. "Likewise." She replied, giggling a bit, the apprehension fading. In the background, Beryl watched the scene. How she hated that girl. Trying to steal her Endymion. If she thinks for one minute that she can have him, she better think again. An evil grin stole over her face and she plotted for how to make this girl pay.... * * * * * * * * * "Well Raye, what were you girls doing?" Endymion asked, keeping one eyes on Raye, one on Sere. The evil glint in Raye's eyes suddenly got bigger. "Oh, nothing Endy. In fact, me and the others were just going to invite Sere on a picnic with us ... but I think it'd be easier if you just took her. Less food to carry and all. I'm sure we can all do something tomorrow." Raye flickered a glance at the others and she could see that they were catching on. They all stole a look at Endymion. Normally he would have done anything in his power to stop Raye from trying to set him up with someone. but this time, if the smile on his face was any indication, this time would be different. "Oh really? Well, I am free, so if Serenity doesn't mind, then I'd be happy to take her." Turning to Sere he asked, "Is that all right with you Sere?" Serenity looked up into his eyes, and saw the fascination there.. she knew that such a fascination was dangerous, because she would not be here tomorrow, or any other day, and if he had any feelings for her at all, she would hurt him when she left.. no, forming relationships, even friendships was not a good thing, but she could live with friendships ... love and caring however was not something that would be left so easily, and she wouldn't allow herself the luxury. Besides, she knew she wouldn't be here tomorrow to do something with the others ... she needed to do it all today. "I can't," She said apologetically and averted her eyes at the disappointment in Endymion's eyes. "I won't be here tomorrow, I leave tonight." "Tonight!?!" The others all cried and Serenity shifted again, nodding her head and running a hand through her bangs, pushing them out of her eyes. "Yes, I'm just passing through here. I won't be staying long." The others all looked shocked, and crestfallen... Serenity knew it was a little late to try not to forge connections with the people here, but she couldn't hurt them ... and she knew that after today, her wish would end, and she would go back on her merry way, while the others stayed here, free and happy ... she would have only the memories to stay with her. At least they would have each other, and at least they could make more friends. "Do you really have to leave?" Mina asked, frowning at the thought of losing a friend whom she'd just met. Serenity nodded softly and then looked up and forced a smile. "Yes, I have to leave tonight, when the moon in high, and the silver light hits the pond near the Southern side of this town. I won't be able to join any of you tomorrow. so why don't we all do something today?" They could see the imploring desperation in her eyes, the pleading there that asked them to make the most of it. All of the girls nodded their heads and then began to talk cheerily between themselves, planning the day, though their voices were not half as happy as when Raye had first shown Serenity to them. Endymion on the other hand was not about to let it go at that ... he swore that he would follow her where ever she went today and try to persuade her to stay longer, and if that didn't work then he would follow her for longer than today, watching over her, keeping her safe ... keeping her near. Something about her was just irresistible. Endymion knew he was falling fast. He was already in love with the girl ... and he'd only just met her! He couldn't believe what was happening to him, and he wouldn't accept it just yet. But he knew that he would follow Serenity to the very ends of the Earth, no matter the cost, and that was all he was willing to admit to himself as he trailed after the five girls who walked ahead of him, whispering excitedly about the day. * * * * * * * * * End of Chapter 1
