Endymion stammered, his grasp on her hand going lax. The blond rolled her eyes heavenward. "And here I thought that they would send a prince or a knight... Hmph!" The smile on her lips showing him that she was joking, she pulled her hand from his and reached for the bag at her side. Pulling out a roll of parchment paper similar to Endymion's, she handed it to him. "Take a look at this." He read the scrawled writing and looked back up at her. "Serenity...Peace... Your parents named *you* Serenity, of all things?" He mumbled more to himself, still trying to take in the information. He almost missed her expression as she stuck her tongue out at him. The parchment was almost identical to his. 'Wait at the town tavern...password 'gullible'...his clue is peaceful...' No wonder his parents wouldn't tell him what the package was. They didn't want to warn him that 'it' was gorgeous...Not to mention that she had a temper as short as his when it came to annoyingly beautiful and witty women. "Well then, Lady Serenity, I suppose we should be getting on out way if we're to get to the palace on time." Getting up out of his seat, he moved ahead and out of the doors. Dumbfounded, she looked back at him. "Hey! What do you think you're doing?!" She practically jumped after him. The cloaked figures sent each other looks as they watched the two leave. A male laugh permeated throughout the room, and one after the other, they each doubled over in laughter. "Did you see that?" "Heck, it's gotta be love," the youngest one joked, his blue eyes laughing. "He could've been killed!" the more serious of the group said, ice eyes blazing and folding his arms across his chest. "I think he's going to have a bigger problem with Princess perfect over there." Another man nodded, his reddish brown hair escaping from the confines of the cloak hood. "She's the only woman in the world that could do that and have him actually let her get away with it. It's kismet, men. Too bad we won't be there to see his face when he finds out the truth." "This is gonna be interesting..." * Four girls stood atop the hillside, looking down on the tree-lined path and the two figures meandering down its length on horseback. "Time to start Obstacle A," the blonde remarked, looking down at the two with a playful gleam in her eyes. She looked to her tall brunette companion. "Ready?" "Can't wait!" she replied, running past the other three girls. "And the hunt begins..." a raven topped girl clad in red smirked. * "Are you sure you know where you're going?" the blond asked with a sigh, leaning against his back. God forbid she was trying to ignore the fact that a delightful scent reached her nose and the feel of his body that was getting to her... "Lady Serenity, I'm positive that I know where I'm going," he replied with an equally bland tone. "This has to be the fiftieth time that you've asked me that. It would be much appreciated if you'd cut it out." 'The nerve!' "Well, I'm sorry to be bugging you, *your highness*, but I'm new to this place and I'm not sure I should even be trusting you after what happened at the bar! And don't call me Lady Serenity." He smirked, and turned around slightly. "Why are you traveling to the palace anyway, Lady Serenity?" She moved to snap back at him, but stopped. After being introduced to Silenus, they had been traveling for hours, and maybe the travel was getting to her. She tried to avoid his gaze, but could not. "Well, you see... I... I'm awaiting the arrival of someone-" "The Moon Princess." "Huh? You...you know about her?" "I've known her for a long time..." 'What...?' * The brunette, now separated from her partners, stood atop the crest of the next sloping hill, and crossed her hands in front of her. A golden antenna raised from the jewel of her tiara. "Sorry Princess," she mumbled apologetically before closing her eyes in anticipation of a power surge. "Supreme...Thunder!" * Serenity's eyes widened, but she tried not to show her interest in the subject, beginning blandly, "How do you...?" She couldn't finish her sentence, and she was at a loss for words for the hundredth time that day. 'It's impossible...' Endymion's face had become more serious, and yet he looked like he was quickly becoming immersed in a dream like state. "It's hard to explain..." Just then, thick, massive storm clouds rolled through the sky, moving as if they were on a mission to catch up with the two. Silenus reared back as the winds began to blow deeper and harder. Gasping, Serenity held on to Endymion tighter, and quickly leaned her head in the crook of his shoulder. If there was one thing she was afraid of, it was- "A thunderstorm," Endymion mumbled to himself. There was no mention of a storm earlier that day, and usually he wasn't worried, but the clouds looked menacing enough. Soon white shots of lightning struck and thunder roared like cry of a lion upon catching its prey. They had to get to shelter soon, because Serenity was scared to death. Not that he minded the fact that Serenity was holding onto him like a second skin. * The four girls reunited at the spot in which the brunette had been standing, and froze, eyes wide as saucers as a huge shadow flew overhead. It passed over them quickly, aiming for another spot, where two people and a frightened horse were quickly bolting in the other direction. "Ne, Ki-chan!" the blonde called out. What happened to your dinky little lightning bolt?" "I guess I wasn't used to adjusting to this environment, and I overdid it..." Her eyes widened and she put her hands on her hips. "Hey! My lightning rod is *not* dinky, Ai-chan!" "Stop worrying about your dinky lightning rod, Ki-chan! What about them?!" the blue haired soldier cried out, pointing into the distance. "Oh no, we have to go fix this up!" Three of them ran ahead, seemingly flying from the hill's crest to catch up with that monstrosity of a storm cloud. "Dammit, my lightning rod is *not* dinky!" she called out before running to catch up with them. * "Hold on, Serenity!" he called out over the booming thunder as he pulled on the reins. Silenus reared back again, but this time he began to gallop away from the storm cloud, Endymion leaning forward to take control while Serenity held on tight. He was quickly getting nervous...the storm clouds around here never got to be of that size. But despite Silenus' speed, it caught up to them, and the rain began to pour, at first gently, and then with increasing intensity. A fork in the path soon came up, and Endymion pulled for Silenus to move to the right. Another boom, and Silenus reared back again, losing his direction and taking the left path. "Silenus, pull back!" Before he could, a cave, like a safe haven, beckoned to them ahead. Instead of turning back, Endymion decided to go forward, and they ended up in the large cave. Inside, Serenity raised her head as Endymion turned around to look at her, a smile in his eyes. "Scaredy cat." Ouch. If looks could kill... Well, Endymion realized that trying to make jokes was probably not the *best* thing to do in their situation... Turning around, he brought Silenus to a complete stop and dismounted, helping Serenity off as well. He unlatched their bags to see if there was anything they might need. They began to walk around the dark cave, the only light coming from the glinting at the sides when the lightning hit outside. The storm cloud was closer, but they had nothing to worry about, right? "Endymion...come here." "What's wrong?" "This material...what the cave is made out of...What is it?" Endymion approached her silent figure in the dark, but froze in his steps when another bolt of lightning hit and he saw the heavy, blinding, unique glint of the cave walls once again. Damn. Rycanite. A metal. A very *conductive* metal. Well, let's see. A storm cloud produces lightning. Lightning is attracted to... Damn. CRASH! "AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!" Endymion covered his ears as Serenity's deafening scream reverberated throughout the walls of the cave as it was struck by lightning. The blast was strong enough to shake the walls and make the top crumble, but they were unharmed because it had struck the rear of the cave, which was covered by a lot of moss and organic material. Meanwhile, Silenus whinnied, and reared back for a final time before disappearing out of the cave and into the path once more. They never heard the screams on the ground above them... * Four toasted special agents stood atop the cave in which Endymion and Serenity were hiding. They had hoped to reach there before the two travelers did and make the crazy storm die down by trying to harness the energy again. They didn't know what the cave was made of... What comes around goes around ^^; "I think I prefer my dinky little lightning bolt..." Ki-chan mumbled before falling to the ground where the other girls lay, knocked out. * "Silenus! Damn!" Endymion called out, stepping out of the cave when the storm just seemed to disappear. The clouds gone, they were both able to see the shining stars clearly, along with the glowing moon. Serenity followed him out, a pout on her face. "I'm sorry..." she muttered. "It's a good thing that Silenus can find his way back home," Endymion muttered, running his fingers through his hair. "Now it's going to take *forever* to get you back to the palace!" He groaned, and picked up his bag and handed the other to Serenity. Leaving her behind again, he left her to stand in her anger and blind stupor, only beginning to follow him when trying to come up with words to yell became annoying. "Waaaaiiiit!" * The four shadows, semi-recovered from the last incident, jumped from one tree to another, quickly adjusting to the environment on Earth. Stopping as they noticed the couple stop walking, they looked down and tried to listen in on their conversation. They were so high up that they were unable to hear anything, but they could tell what was going on by their body language. They were too close to each other to notice, but the rising blush on Serenity's cheeks made them a little bit more than suspicious. "Mizu-chan, let's start Obstacle B." The girl nodded, making sure to stealthily move to a tree on the other side of the tree lined path. Sighing to herself about how this was the strangest assignment that they had received yet, she spread her arms wide, preparing for her first act... * "Well, it's *your* fault that Silenus ran off!" "*My* fault?! Since when was I the one that decided to lead us straight to a cave- with a *metal* core during the middle of a thunderstorm?!" "Well who decided to scream like a banshee when the lightning *did* strike?! Silenus never had any problems with storms before!" "OOOH!" Serenity fumed, her hands clenching into fists at her sides. "You are the most arrogant, unyielding, pain in the-" "You have no idea who you're getting yourself into trouble with!" "I should be saying the same thing! OOH!" She turned away from him and crossed her arms. "You know, they could've sent a knight, a squire, a prince- anything!- and they sent *you*!" she mumbled angrily to herself under her breath. "Well, you're not exactly Little Miss Sunshine either!" "That's it! I give up! Go home and leave me to do this by myself!" Beside herself with anger, she threw her arms into the air and ran off into the night. "Damn! Serenity! Don't run that way, or you're going to get lost!" Endymion called out, sighing heavily before running after her. * "Shabon... Spray!!!" The fog quickly enveloping the forest, the other three senshi jumped down to the ground, each one coming from a different position to surround the couple. The cloud was so thick that they weren’t able to make out anything, and for some strange reason, they couldn't hear Endymion or Serenity. "There!" Ai-chan called out, pointing her finger in one direction where she thought that she saw a moving shadow. "Crescent Beam!" "OUCH! What the-?" "Hey!" Ai-chan cried as a fireball seared the end of her skirt. "Watch where you’re aiming that thing, Hi-chan!" Another yelp of pain could be heard in the distance, and it sounded more than familiar. Ki-chan's voice rang out loud and clear. "AI-CHAN! Stop fooling around!" "I thought I saw them!" the blond called out, sweatdropping when she realized that her long distance beam hit the wrong targets. "Gomen, really!" The fog thinned out just a tiny bit more, and the three senshi gathered together as their shadows came into view. "I've got you!" another familiar voice called out, flying towards the grouped shadow. "Shine Aqua Illusion!" The fog finally cleared out, and Mizu-chan practically ran to the huge chunk of ice in which she'd caught her 'prey'. "Yeah! My plan worked out!" "N-n-n-n-ot qu-qu-qu-ite, Mi-mi-mi-z-z-zu-ch-ch-an..." Three voices called out from inside their cold chamber. "This fuku...i-isn't made f-f-for below z-z-zero t-t-t-t-t-temps!" Hi-chan bit out, teeth chattering, but unable to move. "Serenity! Get back here or you'll get lost!" the prince called out, his voice coming from farther into the forest depths. "Oops..." the intelligent senshi whispered, sweatdropping. ************** End Chapter 2 ************** Ok, so the ending isn't so cliffy, sue me ^^; Please tell me how you think this fic is going ^_^
